Registering for Classes: Continuing, 2nd Bachelor, and Graduate Students

Step One: Check Registration Appointment

This is the date and time you can begin registering for the upcoming semester. While you can register anytime from the beginning of your registration appointment until the last day to add classes, the University of Utah strongly encourages you to register as soon as possible. To view your appointment, sign in to Campus Information Services, click on the "Registration" tile on your Student Homepage, then click on the “View your Registration Dates” link. Consult the Academic Calendar for more information on important dates and deadlines.

Step Two: Clear any Registration Holds

Sign in to Campus Information Services to determine if you have any holds that will prevent you from registering for classes by clicking on “View Holds” tile on your CIS student page. Examples of registration holds include, but are not limited to; missing admission credentials, unpaid tuition/fees, academic advising requirements, and immunization requirements. Clearing registration holds as quickly as possible prevents delays in registration which can impact your chances of getting the classes and schedule that is best for you.

Step Three: Meet with an Advisor

Students are always encouraged to meet with their advisor. If you have questions or concerns about what classes to register for or your progress toward your degree, make an appointment and speak with your advisor. If you do not have questions for your advisor and know what classes you need, proceed to step four.

Step Four: Register for Classes

Once you have cleared any registration holds and your registration appointment has arrived, you are ready to register for classes. You may register for classes online by signing in to Campus Information Services or in person at the Registration & Records window located in the Student Services Building. There are tutorials on how to use the online registration system.

Step Five: Pay Tuition and Fees

Once you are registered and about one week prior to the start of the term, you can sign in to Campus Information Services to view and/or pay your tuition and fees. Students who have received offers of fellowships or tuition waivers will see both the charges for tuition and fees as well as credits for your financial aid package. More information concerning how tuition and fees are calculated and important deadlines for paying tuition and fees, visit Income Accounting. Information regarding tuition waivers can be found on the Graduate School website.

Step Six: Purchase Textbooks

To find the required textbook list for your class schedule, sign in to Campus Information Services, click on the "Registration" tile on your Student Homepage, click on the “Class Schedule” link, and then click on the "Buy Your Textbooks Online" icon.
