Registration Dates

How Do I View My Registration Date?

To view the assigned registration date, log in to the Campus Information Services, click on the "Registration" tile on your Student Homepage, and then click on the "View Your Registration Dates' link. For more detailed information, see our View Your Registration Dates Tutorial (PDF).

Undergraduate Students

Freshmen and transfer students register for classes as part of new student orientation. Returning and continuing students are assigned a registration date based on class level and number of hours completed at the University of Utah as well as transfer, test and other credit. Registration dates are assigned in groups of approximately 400 students so it’s possible that students with the same class level and completed hours may have different registration dates. To ensure the best availability of classes, students are encouraged to register as early as possible within the assigned time.

Hours Completed Year (Class)
0-29 First (Freshmen)
30-59 Second (Sophomore)
60-89 Third (Junior)
90 to Graduation Fourth (Senior)

Graduate Students

At the assigned registration date, all doctoral students may register starting at 8:00AM and all master-level students may begin registering at 12:00PM.

Credit Hour Limits

Undergraduate

Campus Information Services limits registration to 19 credit hours during the appointment period. Once open enrollment begins, undergraduate students can register for up to 24 credit hours by logging into Campus Information Services. If you need to register for more than 24 credit hours, either come in person or email the Registration & Records Division at registration@utah.edu through UMail.

Graduate

Campus Information Services limits registration to 16 credit hours. To register for more than 16 credit hours, a graduate student should work with his/her department to get permission on letterhead from the dean of the Graduate School. The Graduate School forwards the approval to our office and it is the student’s responsibility to register for these classes during the open enrollment period.
