W Delete

Deletion of a “W” Grade

The Academic Senate established the W grade to enable students to withdraw from courses due to circumstances beyond their control without affecting their GPA. Because a W accurately reflects enrollment and withdrawal, requests to remove it are approved only when:

• A documented University administrative error caused the withdrawal, and
• The student had no academic participation in the course.

Students who attended class, submitted work, or otherwise engaged academically are not eligible to have the course deleted from their record. Once a student participates in a course or remains enrolled beyond established deadlines, the University must maintain an accurate record of enrollment and participation.

Petitions must include documentation on official letterhead demonstrating both the administrative error and lack of academic engagement.

Requests may be submitted only by the dean or dean's designee of the student's college and must be filed within one year of the affected term or before graduation, whichever occurs first (Policy 6-100).
