Enhancing Student Success Through Strategic Course Scheduling and Space Utilization
The Scheduling Division of the Registrar’s Office has been supporting a project for strategic course scheduling, a campus wide initiative for undergraduate courses.
The overarching goal of this endeavor is to provide the best student experience while also reducing conflicts in the course offerings. This initiative will spread courses throughout the day, allowing students to more easily obtain both general education and major required courses.
The Scheduling Reboot includes the opportunity for departments to adjust their class schedules and review data using the CLSS tools available for scheduling, along with associated dashboards and reports. This effort should also allow our undergraduates to progress more quickly towards graduation, help ensure a vibrant and effective schedule of classes, and create more efficient use of space resources.
Some of the anticipated outcomes of the project include:
- Expanding course offerings into underutilized morning, late afternoon, evening, and Friday time blocks.
- Leveraging all campus facilities, including satellite locations and hybrid/online formats.
- Aligning scheduling practices with student demand patterns and program pathways articulated in functional four-year degree plans.
- Coordinating scheduling to optimize scheduling practices and reduce peak-time congestion.
The Scheduling Reboot is a project undertaken in partnership with the Office of the Provost and the Vice-Provost for Mission Aligned Planning. We are also proud to partner with Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Academic Schedulers across the institution to work towards a healthy and robust schedule for our students.
