Reserve Capacity Registration

A Reserve Capacity (RC) will reserve seats in a class section for students in a particular population. RC’s can be set based on major, minor, class level, or student group.

Classes that have an RC will be indicated in the class schedule with a note.

Classes can have more than one Requirement Group for a class section. If a student meets more than one requirement, they will be placed in the class based on the highest priority group listed.

If a student is unable to enroll, one reason could be that the available seats are reserved.

The university has implemented a pilot program for several courses for the Fall 2026 registration cycle to participate in the soft-rollout of this functionality. In a later sequence of the rollout process, department schedulers will be able to set up new reserve capacities directly in CLSS.

If you are interested in adding reserve capacity functionality to your courses for Spring 2027 or later, please email scheduling@utah.edu to schedule a scoping meeting.
