Checklist for Graduate Applicants 

Now that you have submitted your Application for Graduate Degree, here are a few things you need to do.

Immediately:

  • Check your View Graduation Status link on CIS and ensure your diploma name and mailing address are listed correctly.

Periodically:

  • Check your UMail account for graduation information or updates
  • Review the Graduate Student Summary link on CIS to determine any outstanding requirements or needed approvals

Prior to your final semester:

  • Make sure that all incomplete "I" or "T" grades on your record have been replaced with a letter grade "A" through "E" or credit/no-credit
  • Contact your department regarding any questions related to degree requirements

During your final semester:

  • Finish any incomplete courses for your degree by the last day of classes
  • Make sure your mailing address and phone number are current on CIS
  • Verify with your departmental advisor that any needed exceptions have been (or will be) entered
  • Ensure that all coursework, approvals, etc. are finalized in the Graduate Student Summary

Please consider the following as you progress toward degree completion:

  • The Registrar's Office, Graduation Division should be notified immediately if you need to make changes to your graduation application
  • Applicants may renew their graduating term without a fee by contacting Graduation for assistance
  • Your degree cannot be awarded until the end of your graduating term even if you finish all requirements before then
  • If all your requirements are complete, you may request a Statement of Completion before the last day of classes if needed for a job or school
  • The degree conferral process takes up to 30 days after the end of the semester
  • The Commencement/Convocation website for ceremony details is available after February 1
  • The Campus Store will contact each graduation candidate with information regarding cap and gown purchase in March prior to Commencement
